Trump signed decree temporarily limiting immigration

US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he has signed a decree temporarily suspending the issuance of green cards to protect American jobs in the midst of the coronavirus crisis.

"In order to protect our wonderful American workers, I have just signed a decree temporarily suspending immigration to the United States," he said in his daily press briefing.

This suspension will have an initial duration of 60 days. Contrary to what the tenant at the White House initially suggested, it will not apply to temporary work visas but only to green cards that offer permanent resident status.

The tenant of the White House said that a further extension of this measure would be considered "in due course".
